Aliment Brewing is a tiny brewery owned & operated by husband & wife, Jason Bathgate & Monica Mead. Aliment launched on 9 August, 2025.
All of our beer is brewed & packaged right here on site.
Aliment means simply to nourish & sustain. It’s a fitting name given that Jason was trained as a chef in his home state of Vermont in the US & worked for more than two decades feeding people delicious food with a focus on paddock-to-plate.
After leaving the kitchen, Jason turned his home brewing career into a profession, starting first at Renaissance Brewing then moving with 8 Wired Brewing north to Warkworth from Blenheim in 2014.
After nine years as head brewer at McLeod’s Brewery in Waipu, Northland (with many medals & a few championship wins), Jason & Monica wanted to return to the Nelson-Tasman region where they landed from the US sixteen years ago. Opening Aliment Brewing & coming back to the South Island was like coming home.
Our beers are for people who enjoy good beer. It’s as simple as that. Jason strives to make a diverse palate of ales & lagers using predominantly NZ hops & malts in tandem with carefully selected yeast. We want you to rely on our beer for quality & maximum drinkability.
Like most small, indy NZ breweries, we don’t pasteurise our beer, so keep it chilled & enjoy.
