Green Mountain IPA 5.9% ABV
YEAR-ROUND BREW | A nod to Vermont, the US state where Jason was weaned on Grade B maple syrup, long winters & stellar powder days.
Shockingly Green Mountain IPA isn’t green given the lavish dollops of Nelson Sauvin, Mosaic & Pacifica in every drop. But - no surprise - it’s a banger. Sticky dank cannabis, fresh lemon zest & rich, ripe tropical fruit notes coat the palate to proper bitterness & a gloriously long hoppy finish.
Why call it 'Unfiltered' when it's obviously effin hazy? Because, that's why. The first NEIPA was made at our Waterbury, Vermont local - The Alchemist - by the still-brilliant John Kimmich. We drank ridiculous amounts of it fresh off the tap.
When John eventually canned his inimitable Heady Topper DIPA he labelled it as 'Unfiltered' with the imperative to 'Drink from the can.' You know the rest.
Hurricane Irene ended The Alchemist Brewpub with a deluge of Winooski River water in 2011. Thankfully, the beer and the brewery live on.
Look, we know 'hazy,' the modern parlance, is hip. We aren't hip. "You'd sell more if you label it as hazy," they say. "It tastes great but call it hazy." Here's the thing - we know where we come from. We stand on the shoulders of brewers who came before us doing magical things with hops & grain.
Do we make hazy beers & label them as such? Hell yes! We may not be hip, but we aren't stupid. 'Hazy' sells, friends, & don't we know it!
But remember, when you drink Green Mountain Unfiltered IPA in your slice of Kiwi nirvana, every drop is a remembrance of Heady on tap in the thrumming Vermont village brew pub that kicked it all off.
